Flossie attended the Barnes School of Business.  She married Dick Stearns, who was in the Army.  They served in France and England, and eventually resettled in Security, CO, where he finished his military service at Ft. Carson.  He and my Aunt Cecile Burghard (Mom's sister) opened Dick's Rock Shop in Fountain, CO in 1978. Flossie quit her accounting job to work with them handling the books and working in the store.  Cecile did jewelry-making, stone cutting and silver-smithing while Dick used his skills for repairing, designing and creating pieces of jewelry from rocks and gem-stones found on rock hounding trips and from folks who brought them in from all over the world.  They enjoyed all the people they encountered as clients, business associates, rockhounds, jewelry-makers, sculptors, crafters and artists. The venture proved to be more than just a career.  Through the business they made many life-long friends.  The Stearns became active members within the community and in less than 10 years Dick became the president of the Colorado Springs Meterological Society. Illness overcame Dick and he passed away in the summer of 2000.  Flossie's sister Diana Wing, an accountant with some background in the gold, silver and jewelry business, moved from Aurora to Security to help out.  Under Flossie's guidance, she began to learn the basics of the lapidary business and attended trade shows - meeting vendors, artists and tradesmen.  Her on-the-job training was going very well when Flossie passed away unexpectedly in the Spring of 2002.

Diana attended the Blair School of Business in Colorado Springs.  She then took over Flossie's position at Polar Refrigeration working with Sid.  She later went to work at a French restaurant in Aurora.  She later worked at an estate Jewelry store.  When Dick fell into bad health and eventually passed away, she moved from Aurora to Security to help run the Rock Shop.  After several years, Flossie suddenly passed away, and Diana was left as sole proprietor of the Rock Shop.  She later moved it to downtown Fountain.

Bill attended Colorado State University after graduating from Limon High School.  In his sophomore year, he met Diann Haberkorn, who had grown up in Denver and attended her first year of college in Omaha, NB.  The married at CSU and worked part time jobs while continuing school, living in a small 8x30 trailer house in Fort Collins.  They were blessed with a daughter going into their senior year - Terri Jo.  After graduating from CSU in 1968, they moved to the San Francisco Bay area (Sunnyvale) where he worked for Shell Oil in Menlo Park.  They resided there for 4 years, and were then transferred to Houston, TX in 1972.  Bill continued working for Shell (almost 25 years).  Diann worked for Target Stores, then Mitchell Energy, then Pennzoil.  When they moved to a new home in Cypress, TX from NW Houston, Diann took a temporary leave of absence to oversee the house building in Longwood Village.  Bill took an early retirement package from Shell and went to work with Micro DecisionWare, a software company in Boulder, CO.  Several years later, that company was bought by Sybase, a major West-coast software company.  He worked in their field sales force for over 13 years, upon which he voluntarily retired.  Then, the market crashed!   Where that monthly check?

Terri graduated from Cypress Creek High School in NW Houston.  She had worked at Target for several years.  She then hired on at Pennzoil and advanced rapidly in various departments.  She met John Dove at some training events, and they eventually married.  Shell bought Pennzoil, so John left and hired on at Westlake, a chemical company.  He had two children from a previous marriage - Johnny and Jennifer.  Jennifer had 2 lovely girls - Katelyn and Kenley.  This marriage made her an instant step-mother and step grand-mother - and making Bill & Diann instant step-great-grandparents.  Who knew?  Terri & John built a beautiful home in Woodland Park, CO, where they and their 2 Labs (Moonlight and Sunshine) enjoy the beautiful Colorado scenery and weather.
